Everything E3!
« on: July 14, 2008, 11:17:49 PM »
Well it's about that time again! Post any cool findings you receive!

Here's something about Xbox 360's outlook as far as the Fall Dashboard Update goes:
Quote
Dear Xbox LIVE Member,

When we launched Xbox 360 in November 2005, Xbox LIVE was integrated directly into the console. Back then, Xbox 360 was the first system to deliver access to experiences beyond just the disc in the tray. With the Xbox guide and dashboard you had access to everything on your console as well as your community.

We also imagined that Xbox experience would continuously improve over time, through the power of software.

Since launch, you’ve always pushed us to continuously innovate. It is because you spoke with one loud voice that we added new features like background downloading, 1080p support, movies and TV shows, video chat, a Marketplace blade and instant messaging.

Over time, as we’ve delivered more and more content into the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, we’ve heard from many of you that it has become increasingly difficult to find the games and content you want.

And that brings us to today.

Because of your feedback, we started rethinking the entire Xbox experience. What we discovered was that we could not only provide a better experience for you, but also something that reaches out to new audiences.

What John Schappert unveiled for the world on stage at E3 was just a sneak preview, so I wanted to share some deeper details on some of the new features in the new Xbox experience.

Here is a look at some additional features you will find interesting:

· Play from hard drive. Copy your games from the game disc and play directly from the hard drive. Not only will the drive not spin, but load times are quicker, as well. Of course, you will still need the disc in the tray to prove you own the game.

· Access Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the Web. Browse and purchase Marketplace content whenever you want from Xbox.com and it downloads automatically to your console. Purchase that new map, television episode, the latest Xbox LIVE Arcade game or set up a movie to watch when you get home from work.

· Dashboard built into the new Xbox Guide. For everyone who loves the blades interface, it’s not going away; they are now built directly in to the new Xbox guide. Every feature and option is available right from the guide. You can even access your full games library at all times. No matter where you are (in dash or in game), immediately call up your games played list and directly launch a game.

· LIVE Party system. Create a party of up to eight friends, and stay with them from one game to another, or watch a Netflix movie together, or share a slideshow of your personal photos. It works with all Xbox 360 titles, not just upcoming games. LIVE Party allows up to eight people to chat in the dashboard, so you can meet up before playing.

· Xbox LIVE Primetime. This whole new category of games is going to give you more reasons to get online with your friends. Games will support everything you’d expect, like Achievements and leader boards, but many of these games will include real prizes. You can invite your friends, and even set a reminder for an upcoming show. Each game is broadcast simultaneously, so everyone is answering the same questions. Many events will have a live host, calling the shots as they happen.

· Avatars. Your online identity started as a Gamertag - it then grew into a personalized Gamercard. Now, it has evolved even further into avatars. You can express your style, check out new outfits and share this with the community. Avatars will also be integrated into Xbox LIVE Arcade games, LIVE Party, as well as retail games.

· New display support. Because you asked for it, we are adding 16X10 over VGA or HDMI, and support for 1440x900 or 1680x1050.

This is only the beginning. Over the next few months, we will share more details on the upcoming changes.

***this might need to be moved to news since that's what this is, although it is game-related***

New Animal Crossing for the Wii looks awesome, I can't wait to play it.  The Nintendo Motion Plus looks like it will be awesome too, hopefully it'll allow for some decent first person shooters.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has also been revealed, that looks somewhat neat even though I'm not really a fan of the series.  It's cool that it's DS exclusive though.

I never got the email either, but it was something that was relayed through Major Nelson to us :)

A new animal crossing :D that's great! And I can't say GTA: Chinatown Wars sounds all that great but what do I know ;) I've always found myself wrong later on.

I dunno ... everyone that's doing the online thing is blending off of each other here and there.

Wouldn't it be great if the big names decided to steal stuff from games like Little Big Planet, and Spore? I'm getting bored of FPS :P

I'm gettin SO FREAKIN TIRED of fps also bro! I'm tired of getting shot from every angle! Like COD4, I'm really getting tired of watching these kill cam's, it's like a nightmare to play now! Everyone camps because they're too scared to run out there and get shot, so my reaction is to just run around the map the entire time and look for those kind of people.

That whole "avatar" thing is kinda gay ... all three consoles have a different outlook on that shit. I dunno what to think of it. All I can think about right now is just loading my 360 games straight off the hard drive and being able to talk to all my buddies at one time. All that other shit, the xbox live games and the movies, I'm not really interested in because they all want my money ...

I agree. It's a really sorry online experience for the Wii, I think.

Have you played Mario Kart online?  I don't think you'd be saying that if you had.  Nintendo's getting there.

I don't mind the avatars...copying the competition is the nature of business and actually makes for much better products in the long run.

MS had a decent show, the the netflix thing makes sense and xbox live is in a position to kick everyone's ass.  The only disappointment was the lack of unannounced exclusives we have Lips but who really give two fucks about that.

Sony did a little better with GOW3, Resistance PSP, Locoroco 2, and a new Ratchet but there was no title that just floored me.  But I would like to know what is Naughty Dog working on, what is the ICO team working on.

Nintendo's press conference was a disaster.  Wii Music is not a game and the "Sports" in Wii Sports Resort don't seem universal enough.  The new attachment would be better if they buildt it into future wii-motes and seems useless considering they are winning the console war right now.  Months ago Reggie promised a huge announcement regarding hardcore games at E3 and what do we fucking get?  Animal Crossing? GTA for the DS? Come on man. what the shit? Animal crossing is also barely a game, and having an exclusive GTA is not a new thing remember vice and liberty city stories.  Come on Nintendo throw us a fucking bone.  I bought Wii fit and now kinda regret it...Nintendo, you will not trick me again.

I wouldn't mind getting a Wii just for the novelty of it all. I still haven't played one. I'm completely sick of FPS's too. I'm sick of games in general lately.
It's a sad state of affairs, I'm actually too bored to play video games.

Me too, I haven't touched a video game in one and a half weeks.

ill buy wii fit from ya if ya dont want it...

And i was kinda opposite of you with M$ and Nintendo...  I thought M$ was kinda week and Nintendo was okay.  The DS stuff is pretty cool...  And so was the speaker/mic.  Animal crossing is one of those games that you are ashamed to playi it, but u cannot put it down either.  If you have never played it, then you shouldnt judge it.

WTF was with microsoft and the camera sh1t?!?!  Didnt the PS2 do that about 6 years ago??

Sony did better in my opinion... but just because of the stunning graphics and new games coming up.

All of these companies like pawning off of each other and just do something different with each thing, try to make it a better experience. That's all :) like someone said earlier ... it makes it interesting :)
