"How Was Your Day?" thread :)
« on: October 19, 2007, 07:25:30 AM »
So tell me how your day was! I'll start ...

today was great, I noticed a few days ago on my new prepaid account with alltel that I had 3 different charges, all 10 cents each for "CallForwardingOpps" whatever the hell that is ... so I emailed them, and just today they apologized for the inconvenience and ACCREDITED me $5 back to my account! That's a free week of service for me, pretty much! :D

and I played Halo 3 and went to some jazz concert tonight, I was really tired so I took a nap while chillin in my chair, it was near town hall and we were in a park so I brought my own chair to do that ;)

lol. so today I went to work, got payed went to lunch cashed my check, went to the district courthouse to get my license back, it was 206.36 there, then another 75 for the renewal so just over 280 dollars. I was just happy it all went quickly, I took about 2 hours off work total, I was expecting more like the rest of the day.  get back to work and find out one of the mixers quit and they want me to take his spot as the lead mixer, so I say if they want that I need a raise, they said sure which I really didn't expect.  so I got an 85 cent an hour raise and they said if I'm good with training and keeping them running at full speed then I get another 50 cent raise in a month.  then I get home and I get mail that says I owe blockbuster 35 dollars for 2 lost movies, so I call them and they say I turned it in, so all I owe is 1.50 for restocking fees.

and thats how my day went.

Today I decided mp3's suck ass. Listening to mp3's is like playing a Dreamcast title with no soundtrack and half the FMV's removed. You may be playing the game, but your missing out on the whole experience. That being said it's difficult to download full albums or find quality FLAC recording's. So what does this mean for someone who loves music and wants to listen to the best quality available. Well it means dusting off a nifty little device called a "CD player", but what about the music? Well I find that ordering music directly from the artist's label is usually much cheaper and almost always a more rewarding experience than buying it in a store. Not to mention if you are into "indie music" they usually put you on a list and send you cool extra's. Oh yeah and I went to work and gave old people drugs. lol

*puts on his "I am an asshole! Ask me how!" button for this next bit...

You know you can change the encoding bitrate on MP3s? I grew up in a home full of audiophiles, and learned the hard way from their incessant cussing that audio quality is not to be trifled with. Most folk seem to think that 128 or 192 kbps CBR is ample, but until you get up into 256+ CBR the lack of quality is GLARINGLY bad. Also, anytime I see someone use a VBR encoder it makes me wanna puke. The fact they are REMOVING null audio and some of the reverb, and even the silence the studio intentionally designed into the music makes me very unhappy. Anyway, if you rip your own music, I am positive you can find a way to encode your own to a degree of quality that will not make you sick.

*takes off the dread button*

And my day, so far, is pretty nice. GF woke me up, and told me if I cooked her breakfast, she would play DDR in her PJs. And her early morning, half dressed DDR sessions lead to dessert!
GREAT morning for me!

People that complain about mp3 quality really have no right, it's not their song, at least they're getting it for free ... ;)

Actually...
When you use some of the newer service, like Napster and iTunes, it is NOT free. And often the sound quality is crappy. I insist on doing all my own rips anymore.
