Getting back into Genesis
« on: January 17, 2013, 06:37:04 AM »
So I've had an old model 1 genesis sitting around for months now, finally just started buying some games for it. I've so far got sonic, sonic 2, rocket knight, eternal champions, shining force, golden axe, streets of rage and shinobi.
I need some suggestions as to what games to pick up next.
Here's my wish list for the near future:
mean bean machine
x-men
cool spot
ms pac man
castlevania bloodlines
shining force 2
street fighter 2
forgotten worlds
phantasy star iv
castle of illusion
landstalker
light crusader
gunstar heroes
strider

this was easily the best genesis related purchase i ever made!!111   http://stoneagegamer.com/everdrive_deluxe.aspx

the everdrive is without a doubt the best flash cart on the market imo. since the genesis hardware has the sega master system chips in it, the everdrive allows you to play sega master system, genesis, and 32x games with its attachment. basically its too good to be true bruhs!1

heres a video with some footage of the everdrivemd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDpBJVE0YMA&t=1m43s

if your a super heavy weight bawse rolling in dough than the mega everdrive is for the real baller !11111 this thing is the everdrive on crack and steroids !111111 http://stoneagegamer.com/mega_everdrive_deluxe.aspx

p.s. callmesir do you have your genesis hooked up to your tv proper? composite cable and a stereo cable coming from the headphone jack? its a must!!111

Man I just can't bring myself to spend >$100 on a genesis flash cart. It can't possibly cost them more than $10 to make, they're just milking it.
It might be worth it to play any game any time, but I like owning the carts anyway.
I'm still waiting on the AV cables I ordered so technically I can't even hook it up to the tv at all yet. :( But no the stupid cables I ordered only have video and one audio channel.. I never thought about the headphone jack though, that's a great idea!

I never had sonic and knuckles, I always wondered if you play sonic 2 as knuckles does it just make the game too easy?

this website has the everdrive for a more competitive price http://shop.retrogate.com/main.sc

to have every sega master system genesis and 32x game running on real hardware, id say its worth it ten times over!1111

also callmesir, the genesis 1 has by far the best sound hardware inside of it, but you cant get stereo from the port on the back of the console, only from the headphone jack. you can do a simple av mod on the genesis, but for the sake of convenience if you want the best your model 1 offers you gotta buy one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/3Ft-3-5mm-Stereo-Mini-Male-Plug-to-2-RCA-Male-Stereo-Audio-Cable-Adapter-/321056868361?pt=US_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item4ac07b0809

your local radio shack can probably hook you up for super cheap and its totally worth it!11111

p.s. this video shows a sound comparison between all the genesis models http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiu8wDLV_9g, gotta have dat model 1!11111

WOW I didn't realize the difference was so vast. I grew up with a model 2 and had no idea, before hearing that vid I was actually wishing I had a model 2 instead just because I like the form factor better but now you've opened my eyes!

i guess i should specify when i say model 1 i mean "high definition graphics" model 1. not all model 1s are created equal.

the model 2 is a very sexy looking system, and out the box it has a stronger composite signal than the hd model 1 does, but the cheap ass sound chips in it are fuckin bullshit. when your a kid and your gaming on a shit tv over rf cable it doesnt matter, but when your a grown ass man and you want the best you gotta go with the hd model 1 console.

i could talk all day about the genesis but i gotta stop myself now. if anyone has any doubts about which model genesis you should own look no further than this picture:

yeah thats fuckin right bruhs SHHHMOUN!!111 !1111

hey callmesir, do you have a local game shop selling classic games or do you have to ebay your new purchases?

ebay is my favorite place to buy basically anything, and where i live now its my only option for classic gaming stuff, even if i had a local shop with classic games i would probably still buy from ebay. for new games i like amazon the best with there release date shipping on new games and stuff.

with that said, about a year ago i lived in north hollywood, in my area were 2 game stores unlike anything i had ever seen. one was a small shop called gameland, i bought a turbo grafix console from them and the place was awesome. the other place was called gamedude, and dude..................... holy fuck bruh.............

its literally a huge warehouse filled with massive amounts of games from every system in existence. the first time i walked into the store i almost couldn't believe what i saw. those pictures dont do the place justice. one section of the store had about 200 sealed sega saturn games in their tall boxes, it was fuckin unreal bruh. if anyone ever goes to north hollywood, you gotta see this shit for yourself!

That place looks awesome. There used to be a little pawn shop near my house before the owner died, he'd let me trade a game for a game, once I beat something and wanted a different one I'd go in there and swap him. I don't think he made much money off me, but he was a cool guy.

I'm totally confused by this... according to various sources online you can't save your game while using a game genie with any cart that allows you to save.
Examples are Shining Force and Phantasy Star. Shining Force 1 saves just fine with game genie codes though, I maxed out my characters, saved my game,
and have been playing without the game genie ever since. The save is absolutely fine.
As for Phantasy Star 4, notta. Nothing happens at all when trying to save while the game genie is connected, even if it's off and no codes were inputted.
And it's pissing me off, because I can't beat Zio at level 15. I need my cheats but can't save with them on. GRRR! I don't want to level grind!
