How to play Japanese Sonic CD here in the states?
« on: December 10, 2010, 11:10:21 AM »
I really need to play sonic cd with its original music, i cant lose another night of sleep over this anymore! In the past i have tried about a thousand times to region patch the japanese iso to play on my old sega cd model 1 with absolutely no luck. my model 1 no longer works and all i have at the moment is a jvc xeye which has no software to run import games, sooooooo..

What are my options? buy Japanese hardware and the Japanese game? i really love sonic cd but i dont know if i can spend 200 bucks for 1 game.  I have an idea that is kinda crazy but maybe also genius at the same time, brace yourselfs!!11.

sometimes when you download sega cd games they come with a ton of mp3 files that you have to make a cue sheet for and mount onto a compressed image or something. what if someone took the america image file but made a cue sheet with all japanese mp3s and created some kind of 1 of a kind disc that could easily play on american systems but have to superior music? just a thought, please bounce some ideas off of me!!111

IM DYIN FOR TUNES!111

edit- if someone is willing to try my idea than i could provide them with the japanese soundtrack, im no good at making those cue sheet things though. thanks

Why not just play it on an emulator?

I don't see anything wrong with Jem's idea. At least testing your ideas on an emulator would be more efficent. There's a quote button by the way which is also more efficent.

i want to play japanese sonic cd on real hardware with a real controller in my hands on a huge tv with my sound system causing earthquakes pumping out some serious tunes with tears of joy running down my cheeks.

emulator is so crappy and soul less. can someone tell me if my idea is possible rather than tell me to play on an emulator? i see people make mvc2 with custom soundtracks so i want to know if my idea is possible. im not going to try out the idea cause ive never made a successful cue sheet cause im a nub. thanks

hey xXSTR8FSXx you should learn how to read, i say emulators make me want to puke you come post "hey you should just use an emulator its a good idea, and you can test out your theory blah blah"

if you read my first post you would see that im incapable of doing any of the actual work cause im a nub, i want someone to help me with my idea and i will help them out with how im capable ( giving them the soundtrack)

also whos side are you on? i thought this was a place for hardcore sega fans. its our job to keep sega alive by doing awesome sega stuff like setting up our master systems and playing golden axe warrior with fresh cartridge batteries or hooking up our dreamcast to brand new tvs with vga and stuff. you sound like the type that would sell you genesis and games and go buy the "ultimate ps3 genesis collection" or wait better yet, lets just download the games and play them on our computerS111111

I did some research.  The only way you can play Japanese Sonic CD on an American SegaCD is by flashing the BIOS.

The program that patches ISOs to different regions (SCDconv) was a good idea, but the compatibility list for SCDconv says that it will not convert Jap Sonic CD to American.

I've never had experience patching SegaCD ISOs, but I've had plenty of experience with Saturn region patching.
There were plenty of ISOs that would have errors upon patching, that would require a second program to delete the errors.
I'm not sure if there's a program like this for SegaCD.

Back when I was into the Saturn scene, I would use an emulator to test the ISOs before I wasted CDs on discs that would not play on my American Saturn.
If you're that adamant about playing games on the original hardware, buy a Japanese SegaCD.

When people made custom music for MvC2, they didn't alter CUE sheets;
there was a program created specifically to insert music into MvC2.

Is it possible?  Sure, anything's possible.  But I sure don't know how to do it.
I don't think it's as simple as changing the mp3s and writing a new CUE sheet to match the timings.
Maybe it is.  Give it a try and let us know how it works out.

Mods, how about we unleash the banhammer on this selfish stud?

Some people just won't listen to what they don't want to hear. Don't take it personally, emulation makes much more sense.

Your welcome to stay, just be cool. Don't get so over dramatic. Yes we have senses of humor. xXSTR8FSXx was offering you advice, he didn't have to try and help you. You didn't like his idea and then proceeded to go ape shit about emulation being anti Sega. Just chill out and everything will be cool ok?

Well thank you, I wish it was real :D I was doing some funny videos a while back with this beard and just liked the picture. I'm growing a real beard, but yeah it's pretty weak in comparison.
