DC undubs: are there any?
« on: November 10, 2010, 06:34:01 AM »
First, for those who don't know what it is:

Quote
Undubbing is a type of video game hacking, which involves modifying the contents of an officially localized video game to match the audio and voice acting to its country of origin while retaining the translated text of the country in which it has been localized. -- Wikipedia.

So I heard there is a strong "undub scene" for the PS2, but what about the Dreamcast? I don't think I've ever seen any. And there is, among all Dreamcast games, one that is truly begging for it: Shenmue. I mean, seriously, the game is all about Japan. Why the hell was it ever dubbed in the first place? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!

I don't think I would have played Shenmue if the dialog wasn't in English. While I admit that at times it's really bad, it's one of those games where I think of the bad NPC dialog as just being classic :)

I prefer dubs to subs, but I think that a release MIGHT exist in what you are looking for.

Or just put up with it and play shenmue 2 ;)

There is a  Japanese version of Shenmue done by Mag94 that has English subtitles, Shenmue II is a undub in the sense and Sonic International can also be an undub. I don't like them so I don't know of any others as I haven't looked but I know that those have that available
