OK I don't have any idea if this is new or not, I just found it though and It's got some good points and some bad points.

Good things
rip your PS3 games to either the internal or an external hard drive
It is a USB stick so there are no warranty issues

Bad things
No trophies
No online
If you go online you will get banned.
Costs 140 dollars on the site I went to.

So basically your options are to buy this and don't play online ever, or buy a 360 and mod it for around the same amount and risk getting banned on the 360 playing online.

OK so Sony is taking them to court already over it but they got the stick out to people and there is already one confirmed clone and probably more to come. The current one is called X3jailbreak and they plan to charge 55 to 65 dollars.

This sucks. The otherOS feature is already permanently gone because of this crap, now what else is going to happen?
Maybe Sony will limit the hard drive size you can install. Maybe the 10 year life cycle will be dramatically shortened. Maybe we'll lose out on a few great games that would have come.

Well if Sony wins the case then those people are seriously fucked. But I hope they win personaly, cant wait to see the awesome homebrew to come out for it, There is already a ton of homebrew being made for it. Besides, they still haven't figured out a way to get the ripped games to look real so Sony instantly knows if you have the mod and bans you. Plus, I want Other OS back, and that is one of the first things they wanted to do.

Little update here. The hack is either being made to work with or is already made for PSP, Apple Ipod Touch OS based products, Android, Palm Pre and several other devices. Also, if you dont care about playing PS3 online, be on the lookout soon for banned PS3s on craigslist.

I wonder if banned PS3's will still work, or if Sony will fry the HD like I heard Microsoft is doing? If banned PS3's are cheap it would be worth it to snag them up, if only to buy them for spare parts to fix broken consoles or just sell on ebay.

It would be worth it because if you don't plan on playing online or if you want a modded console for games you don't plan to buy. get that mod and use it. I'm going to buy one once I find one for 100 or so.

Yeah, I found out about the PSJailbreak about last week, I was like, "Holy shit! That's awesome! Now I can play my favourite Square Enix games in sparkly HD!".
But then I found that it got outlawed in Australia because of some legal bullshit (it can rip games "illegally").
So then, I was like, "Aww."

Ichi, you can also use Ipod Touch/iphone, PSP, several phones and even a TI-84 plus calculator to mod the PS3. I stuck my wii on craplist a couple days ago just to trade for an ipod touch, gonna mod the ps3 then trade the touch for a 360 or another wii. HAHAHAHA. Ive gotten two offers so far but Im waiting a few more days to see who will give me the best deal, so far an 8 gig first gen with a bunch of extra junk I dont care about, and a 2nd gen 16 gig with just a usb cable which is all I need. I'm hoping I can get a 32 gig though, that will pretty much seal the deal on getting a 360 instead of a wii when I'm ready to get rid of it.

I jailbroke mine with my old G1 android phone.  Phone of course has to have root access and AT LEAST Cyanogen 5.1 ROM or higher.  6.0 is reccomended.  If anyone has any questions let me know.
