Help on burning half life
« on: November 14, 2010, 04:16:01 AM »
I was sent a supposedly working half life and blue shift (.nrg and .cdi perspectively) file to burn since I requested the game(s). But my problem is, those are the only games that dont seem to work on my dreamcast. I have no idea what my dreamcast is except (looks on the back):
HKT-3020
Manufactured September 1999
NTSC-U

and apparently, thats a "good" dreamcast to use when playing backups. So If anyone can help me with those two things, that would be great. I have burnt games before and they all work spot on. So im guessings its something with half life :S? thanks

p.s: if this isnt the right place to post, im sorry

You have to burn the game at the slowest setting you burner will go for best results.

Fail. Not necessarily true. On modern drives with modern discs probably not true.

That's funny I have 5 different drives 2 are brand spanking new and the other 3 various ages. I have burned games at super fast speed and slow speed my results are the slower the better, every time I burn them faster I get coasters like maybe 1 working game to every ten burns. So yea if fast works for you then that is way cool. I just know that my pent 4 alien ware 4gb of ram with internal and external burners I get the best results at slow speed. I have all 3 burning programs and end some, Nero plus 120 and DJ and a few others maybe there is a secret to fast burning? If so please let me know thanks.

You can check the discs you burn with a program called nero cd-dvd speed. :)

Although that just checks how the drive can read the disc it is a good indicator and you can try the disc in different drives. Try writing at 8,16, 24, 40 and read the discs with CD-DVD speed. You might be surprised with the results.
