Full Screen Ikaruga
« on: October 02, 2008, 06:46:02 PM »
i've noticed that emulated Ikaruga seems to have no black bars. As in, the system is actually rendering a full widescreen image on dreamcast, but just blocking some of the view

Is there any way to hack a rip of Ikaruga to do that on a Dreamcast?

Thanks

you'd have to keep the black bars though, so you knew where your movement limit was :D

  • Is it getting dark in here, or is it just me?

That's interesting, I remember doing that to a few Game Boy games using an emulator and having the same result.  Does stuff ever actually go over the black bars?

Ikaruga has plenty of video options.  There is one for full widescreen with no black bars.  I tried it on my widescreen LCD in VGA, and it looks great.

Did you flip your monitor into Tate mode?  :P

Yes, but its not VESA mountable.  So I had somebody hold it up, and when they got tired - i layed down sideways to play.

You could never play Ikaruga in 'vertical' mode on a widescreen tv without black bars.

Here is a pic of Ikaruga running on my 42" TV.

If you switch it to 'vertical' mode the black bars are almost a foot wide, each!

Jem, me too. Layed on my side for about half an hour. Also tried playing it as a side scroller too. Didn't seem right though.

I have been thinking about this idea of hacking away the black boxes. This seems worth looking into. To me half the enjoyment of the game is seeing the animations and graphics.  :)
