Analog Out - Video vs Composite
« on: October 21, 2008, 06:04:46 AM »
I have a gamecube with analog out only and I have the official nintendo multi av out from my N64 with composite video. I also have a 3rd party AV out for the gamecube taht has a S-video connector as well as composite. I know that in general, S-Video gives a better picture than composite, but I was wondering if since its still useing the same Analog AV out from the gamecube, would it make a difference in picture? even if its not notecable, i have the s-video cable so if its theoretically better, why not.

are you asking what the difference between svideo and component, or composite?

component will give you a much sharper image.

composite < s-video. Im wondering if this holds true for the gamecube's analog Multi-AV out port.

I put component in the title by accident, the post says composite.

The picture will be the same if you are using the same port, you'd need to use the native digital port to get it to look any better.

heh, thats why I was confused. S-Video will give you a better image, it splits the video up into 2 different signals that produces higher definition then composites single signal.

component is just crazy nice :D

nope, some cubes have two ports (plugs) one for digital and one for analog, the s-video goes through the analog (I'm not sure what your getting at)

my gamecube only has analog, but if the digital and analog were the same shape/port i could get one with a digital out then use the cable i have (uses the analog-shaped jack) that has s-video. I guess S-video is tehre in the cable i have just as another option, not necessarially for those wanting better picture, since the pic wont improve out of the analog jack

S-video outputs analog only, but it will make the image look better by separating the luminance and color, this makes for a less blurry image when the two are combined (less data for each signal)

don't be confused, while it goes out the same port, it still provides a better image.

GI is correct. An S-Video cable will give a slightly sharper image than standard AV cables. It is only really noticable on a plasma or lcd, if you have a standard or "tube" tv the difference is barely noticable.

If you've got a realy nice "tube" tv (flat screen), it can be pretty apparent, I've got an I'art with component ins as well as svideo and composite, you can really see blur in composite.

Oh, sorry, I read component cable, I didn't know you were talking about the RF adapter. General is right.
