Hi everyone
« on: October 03, 2008, 03:27:21 AM »
Hi,

My wife and I are new to this forum. We are in our late 30s.

We both love retro-gaming, and love our Sega systems (Saturn, Master System, Genesis/Sega CD, Dreamcast)
Someday I want to get a SG-1000 to round it out, but not until we’ve gotten some other stuff.

We play all kinds of games, retro and current,
Especially obscure stuff and stuff from Japan.
We play lots of Turn-based and rhythm games, though we also play 3rd person shooters and all kinds of stuff.

(Right now, I'm getting some rhythm games from Japan through a deputy service, a bunch that I've never seen reviews of - we'll see if we can get past the Japanese!!!)

Anyway, if anyone here is in Humboldt (its on the coast and at the very top of the state, about an hour south of Oregon), drop us a line.....

Thanks for the warm welcome!

My wife and I got into gaming at the same time about a year ago or so.
I had played a NES some when I was a kid and thats it,
so we were at the same skill level.

We agreed that we wouldn't play anything but co-op games, and never play competively, nor would anyone play while the other wasn't.

I really believe that that is what made the difference.

We got into retro stuff because it turned out that FPS made her really sick
(It's a form of simulator sickness).  Third person was fine though.

Also we both like simpler games, so we started with an Atari 2600 and worked our way up.

Now we play single player games, but we still don't play seperately.  We've never played a competive game though that I can think of.

But then again, we do everything together, including working at the same place...

I'd recommend trying Gauntlet Legends if you haven't then, it's a pretty fun co-op game :).

Thank you all for the warm welcome!  :D

Thanks for all the co-op suggestions, that is always helpful.

We both like Guantlet Legends, on the ps1,
we also  like the NES port of the originals.

We also own the Contra games, but found them too hard at the time.
It's one of the first co-op games that we tried, so now we might find them a lot easier.

We've never tried Mega Man on the NES, on Wikipedia it's listed as a single player game.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_Man_(video_game)

We really liked Sexy Parodius and another one too....   My wife thinks the other one might be the Saturn version Jikkyō Oshaberi Parodius

We *really* liked the co-op on Baldur's Gate!

I am a compulsive list-maker of somewhat obscure stuff (like every single point-n-click game on a console, a list of every singe co-op game ever made), and while there are threads and articles of that sort of thing all over the place, I'm making the most comprehensive lists that I've seen.  (It'll be a while before they are ready to make public yet)

But a list doesn't say which ones are the *funnest* and the best, so thank you all for the suggestions...

I saw you made mention to enjoying reto gaming, I'd check out some emulators for the DC. like dreamsnes (snes), nesterDC(nes), dream-o-rama(sg-1000/3000), neo4all (neo-geo ase/msv/cd), and there are alot of other really good ones.  Anyways playing roms on the DC is a hell of alot better than Using them on the PC, it feels just like owning the console.
