CD Question
« on: August 13, 2007, 10:24:11 AM »
Is there a certain CD I should use when burning games (ie CD-R; CD-RW)? Also, are there certain brands that are recommended? I currently have HP cd-r 52x 700MB/80 min. CDs. Will these work?

Those might work, but in the future, buy Maxell or Memorax.  Maxell is the best, but Memorax work good too.  Those to brands are the most consistant and have the slowest loading times in my experience.  You should buy CD-Rs, because CD-RWs are overpriced, and they're kinda pointless.

I second that:  only get CD-Rs.  They're cheap enough that it doesn't matter if you make a mistake ;).  I think I just got a 100-pack of Sony's for like, $25.

I always buy Sony discs... they've never failed me.  Neither have Memorex (I get those when the store didn't have Sony).

The reason why I like Maxell is because they work just as good (IMO) as any other CDs, but you can get 100 for $10 when they're on sale.

I should mention that CD-RWs dont work on the DC at all.  So dont get them 4 DC.  There is a way to get the DC to boot CD-RWs by recaliburation the lasor, but when you do that it wont boot regular GD-ROMS and probably not CD-Rs either.

Yeah I have had no problems and use crappy Ritek and CMC mag disks.

Memorax use external producers and license them so are never a sure-fire bet as the disks could be anything.

It's an okay price, I usually get 50 for less than $15, and when there's sales I can get 100 for a little more than $10.  But you're in a completely different society so it's not really comparable :P.  Minimum wage there is much higher than here.

No because I have 50 Taiyo Yuden 3 +R disks.

It is hard to tell which are going to last longest, but I suspect in 50 years time I will be happier with my Tajyo Yuden disks than you will with your riteks.

The Ritek CDRs I have look, feel and even smell tacky and shit. (And they are RiDATA - RiTEKs own distribution for Europe).

Well, Ritek's are the only one's that work consistently on my GameCube and DVD player.  I'll have to try these Taiyo Yuden disks though.
