I think that in the end, we all need to realize that people have free wills and that means the freedom to do what they will to themselves. As a parent/authority figure, you should do your best to curb self-destructive behavior in those that depend on you, but in the end everyone makes their own choices.

You make your choices and you live with them.

My thoughts exactly...

I am a 21 year old college student (cumulative GPA of 3.75 and I will be a senior next semester), I work a 40 hour job, take care of parents (disabled), and manage a bitchy girlfriend all at the same time. I like to think of myself as King Dope in Charleston 8) . I love marijuana and I love life. I love both of those things when they get mixed together.

I will agree that weed isn't for everyone; however, I know that I am one of those stoners that seem to perform better when under the pressure with a blunt in one hand a beer in the other. We are few and far between. I have written a thesis paper for my political analysis class about the legalization of marijuana within West Virginia (yes it is something local politcos are trying to pass). I hope this shithole becomes a smoke haven soon... we could use the tourist cash! ;D

I detect some type of hostility towards cannabis users. I'm going to just put this out there, I know tones of people who are high functioning and smoke weed. Just alot of poeple who smoke it are just stupid to begin with.  further more concerning the chocolate bar comment its not the callories that hurt you, its the transfats. the body just isnt made for them but people still eat them.  If a donut or cake (were talking twinkies and half moons here, not real cake) a day is probably worse for you than a joint a day.

I may smoke, but I'm vegetarian. So I bet I'm still healthier than a lot of non smokers.

"Avoiding new experiences" is a pretty blunt way of putting it.  People have lived before me.  It's not an entirely new experience.

Basic science tells me that ingesting alcohol is not good for me, and inhaling smoke is not good for me.
In lieu of the overwhelming evidence and information that we experience everyday, I'd say that choosing to not smoke or drink alcohol is a wise choice.

Trying something that harms you just because it's a "new experience" isn't convincing.
I haven't tried to saw my arm off yet, and I don't intend to.
Those studies claim antioxidants ward off cancer... and it's the grape juice in wine that carries those antioxidants, not the ethanol.

You could get the same health benefits without the ethanol in regular grape juice.

True, but why are you so enraptured with forcing your opinion as the "truth" on other people?  If that's not what you're doing, then you gotta reword your thoughts, because I'm totally seeing you trying to convince me and everyone else on this board who partakes of anything you don't agree with that we're some sort of scum.  You're coming across as very judgmental.  You're coming across as pointing a finger at people and wagging it thusly, saying "Bad!  Bad humans!"

We are different.  And yes, these experiences have been around, but they may be new to the individual.  And evidently, you're not one of us, and that's okay.  Nobody will force a beer in your hand or a joint upon your lips, my dear boy (no matter how well it would remove the stick from your rectum).  Nor will I, as an individual, force you to think the way I do.  I'll let you choose for yourself and the consequences that come with it.  But I'm an adult, and I'll deal with things just fine, believe me.  I have parents, I have bosses, and I have a government.  The last thing I need is someone else telling me what to think or do, thank you very much.

I'm an individual.  When I drink, I drink with close friends, and not because it's the "cool thing to do."  I drink because I like it, and when I do, I drink in moderation (i.e. one 8 oz glass of water per drink per hour - that's my way!).  When I smoke, I smoke in moderation (I used to be a serious 'head, but now I'm the one-puff king).  I don't even BUY it anymore, unless I really need to get a good assignment done for my creative writing classes.  I guess my point is this: I made my choice, I'm mature and stable enough to handle it, and if you don't like it - then with all due respect, tough shit.  Stop trying to convert me to something that I don;t believe in.

Both of you are flippy floppy over this whole subject, and neither of you can change what the other thinks. I respect both of you but this is just downright silly. 4/20, smoking and drinking is all about opinion and preference. 4/20 ended 4 days ago, and neither of you have been able to change anyone's beliefs or opinions about this topic.

Now go smoke up (read) the Bible, or reefer, or whatever it is you guys do :D

Jem has brought to my attention to take a side on this. I don't do weed but I don't have a problem with people that celebrate this day or just smoke weed. If they get stupid and I get an awesome job well yay me. It's not a big deal to me, it's just a holiday and habit.

Jemsic: the socioeconomic cost of hangovers alone is $180 billion annually.
Jemsic: thats just hangovers.
Jemsic: what about all the workers who die from alcohol related deaths?
Jemsic: how much does that cost us?
Jemsic: a democracy only works if the people are moral.
willplayer: this is what you're doing:
willplayer: this lil fella is showing us what you should be doing:
Jemsic: i just dont want you to act so passive and accepting of people who choose to do wrong and claim it is right.
willplayer: Live alone, civic duty ... and both in one sentence? yikes.
willplayer: It's a CHOICE is what it is.
Jemsic: duh, it was supposed to be contradicting
Jemsic: i WANT to leave, but i cant because of duty.
willplayer: I CHOOSE not to talk about this stuff because it's not MY problem.
willplayer: I say if you abuse weed, then yeah it is wrong.
willplayer: If you do it to the point where you rely on it, then it's wrong.
willplayer: Same thing with drinking.
willplayer: That's all I'll say about it because that's how I really feel about it.
willplayer: Isaiah 5:10
willplayer: "Woe unto them that follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!"
Jemsic: Proverbs 20:1 (KJV):
Jemsic: Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

basically this is pointless to argue over, as you can see ... because it's all about opinion and personal beliefs/preference. Some of us have tried weed, some not, some don't even know what weed is, so let's settle down and get along :)

It's not that at all.  I don't even partake of anything in great amounts these days except Acai and Pomegranate juices.  For real.

I just don't think cramming "morality" down people's ears is a good thing.  It only starts shit and serves to divide those who have a different opinion than those who bear the "torch of righteousness."  Torches, while supposed to be used for subtle illuminating, are usually the object that burns things down, if you catch my meaning.

I jut get tired of being made to feel like a heathen.

Depends on the supermarket you're shopping at.  Here in Florida, you can get it at Publix pretty easily.  But I'm sure you'd have trouble finding it at a Wal-Mart or something like that - your best bet is health food stores.  I usually get a bottle of Bolthouse Farms Acai/Pomegranate/Guarana blend juice (it costs almost $8 a bottle, not cheap) and mix that 1/3 parts to 2/3 of Minute Maid Omega-3 enriched juice, which is a blend of Blueberry, Blackberry, Grape, Apple and Pomegranate juices in an effort to conserve the high-power, high-cost stuff without sacrificing any health benefits.  It's working like a charm - I'm not getting sick, I'm feeling absolutely fantastic in the mornings especially, and I can almost feel my thought processes working at peak efficiency.  :)
