Dreamcast Control Cable

My Dreamcast Cable is kind of broken at the bottom of the controller. It still works perfectly but is there a way to repair it?

either splice the cables or trim back and resolder to the PCB other than that just stick some tape or heatshrink around it and hope it holds out
