Phone Talk
« on: March 27, 2008, 10:03:27 AM »
Google is talking about how they want to make cell phone talk time free and things like that, well I'm right behind them but I hope they hurry up on that.

The reason I bring this topic up is, I'm tired of spending money just to talk to people. I'm on a day-by-day pay plan with alltel, free texting and free nights and weekends but 10 cents a minute to talk during the day, that's the low-blow of this deal. But no contract which is good. And it's only $23 a month.

So what are some other good plans out there? Anyone heard any rumors about Google or WiFi phones in the works? I wish they'd make a wifi phone that'd let you talk to other mobile users and not just landline or skype users, that'd be nice.

Maybe I'm just talking and this topic won't go anywhere, but it discourages me that phone calls actually cost something right now. I'm with Google once they come out with their service and ideas.

im looking for a plan too. I'm currently on AT&T with my contract expiring in october. I just got an iphone a couple days ago as a gift and i really dont want to sign up for 2 more years for 60/month. the iphone looks well and good, but what do i need it for? to be hip? i like the idea of carying a movie player, ipod, wifi device (i can get rid of the sony mylo) and a phone all in one go.

i dunno. the only real person i call is my boss when he needs some sort of article or something, so it discourages me to get 350 minutes for $40. I have about 3500 rollover minutes for att, and all i honestly really do is text people. im considering jumping over to t-mobile where i can get 300 minutes for 30 bucks + 5 for 400 txt mesagges.
thats already better than att where i pay 50 dollars for 350 minutes and 200 txt. only problem is that i'd really like to use the iphone and the only way for that is to roll with att.

I'm with you on that. I'm thinkin about jumpin back into my family's share plan with Verizon because it'd be right about $30-$35/month for 700 shared minutes and free IN texting/calling; most of my friends have Verizon so this could be pretty sweet.

Yeah the iPhone is pretty much the coolest thing around, but you could definitely get a ton of money if you sold it! :D

T-Mobile has been great for me so far.  I'm pretty sure that I'll just be continuing using them into college.  You can get a T-Mobile plan for $30 with 300 minutes (good enough for me) with unlimited weekends and like Cockatiel said you can get 400 texts a month for $5 more.  Also you can get their "hotspot at home" phones where you can use your wireless network to call and receive calls. So basically anyone you call or receive calls from is free if you're in your own house.

Also with T-Mobile you can get the Nokia 5300 which is probably the best phone on the market price/feature-wise.  They have a microSD slot, a great camera, and good signal reception.  The camera is good too.  You have to pay $50 over your phone bill to get it, but it's definitely worth it.  My friend has one and it works great.

I've traveled quite a bit this year and there were very few places I didn't get service.  Where there wasn't T-Mobile I got service from Suncom and AT&T.  That was very nice.

Cockatiel, couldn't you just unlock your iPhone?

What version firmware do you have?  Some versions of the iPhone can be unlocked with the click of a button.  I'm remember hearing about bricking when it was brand new, but they really have it figured out well now.

Just make sure you follow a guide for your firmware version.  If you're feeling unsure, join an iPhone forum where they talk about unlocking and get some straightforward answers, they'll know more about it than I do.

Haha :D yeah I'm sure you can do it! Just please don't be like one of those people that downloads those dumb lil apps that let you drink out of it, or pull popcorn out of it, or x-ray your arm, or ...

Yeah my parents are totally cool with me gettin in their plan, so we'll see what happens. I love the LG 9900 EnV thing, gosh it's so tight! Anyone have one of those, does it work well as far as phone calls go?

Glad you got it working Cockatiel.  Is your iPhone just unlocked or did you also jailbreak it?  If you jailbreak it you can play NES games and stuff on it :D.

i did do it all, so it did the jailbreak, unlock and activate. thats all im doing btw, i dont want or need the fancy applications that will mess the phone up or make the battery drain like mad.
i am willing to give that suimmerboard application a try, i dont like the plain black icon board.
