What's Your Favorite Monster?
« on: March 18, 2008, 04:29:50 AM »
Pickens writes "Mankind has always had a fascination with monsters, and mythologies from around the world include stories of strange and terrifying creatures. Examples include the half-bull, half-human Minotaur of Greek myths, the living clay Golem of Jewish traditions, British elves and Chinese dragons. Live Science has an interesting photo essay on their ten favorite monsters that may have a basis in real life. Their rogue's gallery includes the Ogopogo, a mysterious monster in Canada's Lake Okanagan; the Chupacabra, that Latin Americans believe is the unholy result of secret US government experiments in the jungles of Puerto Rico; and the perennial favorite Bigfoot."

I vote Bigfoot solely on the fact that there hasn't been an overtly pretentious movie done up about him lately.

As overused as it now is in popular culture Monty Python's Rabbit of Caerbannog.

^ Well said.  The general consensus of today clearly states that in order to be considered a Monty Python fan, you only need to like and memorize half the lines from Holy Grail.

Fuck those people, they're not scratching the surface.

Flying Circus FTW.  I own the entire series on DVD.

Flying Circus is sooo amazingly dated now though. I am sure it was fresh 40 years ago but has certainly lost it's shine now.

well thats kind of a cheap shot.

i would tend to agree.  there is a lot of funny stuff, but i think they did a really good job of collecting the best of it in 'and now for something completely different'

There's some real gems buried in there, though.  Like "Village Idiot," "The Attila The Hun Show," "Archeology Today" or "Election Night Special."  It's timeless stuff for those with an overly-active absurdist sense of humor.  Most of the "jams" of the FC were included in "ANFSCD," such as "Blackmail!" or "Conrad Pooh's Dancing Teeth," but the FC still has stuff that hasn't been tarnished by time.

And now for something completely different was excellent, as was Life of Brian, Oddly enough I liked both more than holy grail, but thats awesome too.

Pillowpants is my favorite monster. Once a girl told me she had him in her and that he would bight my dick off, so like a gentleman I went down and ate the monster out of her. I'm a hero!

Retro, please stop bumping these old threads with nothing to add. This is an official admin warning. (From me, undiscussed with other admins).

I vote for the Ducati monster.
