Stickers on CD's..?
« on: February 05, 2008, 07:54:15 AM »
I just won this copy of Earthworm Jim for the Sega Cd.. and I notice theres some stickers on the cd... probably from a rental place at one point no doubt.. I was wondering if I should attempt to take that shit off... I know that sometimes even small stickers can perhaps make a cd become off-balance in the drive? or should i just leave it be?

DO NOT REMOVE!!!
If you feel you absolutely have to take it off, at least soak it in water so it comes off without you pulling on it. Theres a pretty good chance you could fuck up the disk by peeling it off.

Take it off.  Don't soak it in water tho   ???

Goo Gone can easily remove sticker residue.  I do it all the time.

BAD IDEA!  A disc with stickers on it easily can screw up your disc drive.  On the other hand, be very careful when removing it as from the top of the disc there is only a thin layer of material protecting it unlike the bottom.  The data is literally right under the top of the CD.

I would use Goo Gone too and I'm betting that it's a nonreactive chemical, otherwise they would have warnings on it.

Goo gone is so light... about the only thing it can take off IS sticker residue.  I wouldn't worry about using it for a second.

Yeah, if you're using gasoline, then maybe you should worry about something happening (it actually works really well by the way, I use it to get off the bumper stickers that were on my car when I bought it :P).

Why the hell wouldn't you tell him to soak it in warm water? Water won't hurt the disc, it will help to remove the sticker.

I guess, but it doesn't get rid of residue like Goo Gone and you can't scrap it off without risking damaging the CD.

whats the point of putting stickers on your games and systems?  it makes them look retarded.
if the stickers were relevent to the game. for example like putting a i love alf sticker on your nes.

sorry alittle bit off topic

goo gone all the way

It has a bar code so it was most likely used for rentals or something, it's not like someone thought it would look cool there :).

Oh yeah, and it's okay to get offtopic, that's what we do here on Segahub.

OMG I used to want to kill whoever made those fucking stickers, they pissed me off so much.  it made it so hard for me to steal all those dozens of games I stole when I was a kid, they put them metal alarm things underneath the sticker, god..... memories.......

so what happened?
in reality its just a sticker on plastic just rip the fucker off and clean the shitty gunk off factory disc's unlike a lot of shitty CD-R have a hard protective layer of plastic on the top use aftershave, napalm or whatever you like your just cleaning an unimportant piece of plastic
