Can someone help me raise enough money for a 360?
« on: February 12, 2008, 02:37:47 AM »
I'm aiming for a halo 3 360, 400 bucks. So far I have 40.
I am selling things on ebay.
http://myworld.ebay.com/solids-store
I own some more stuff and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me on what would sell good, how to get more bids and so forth? Since I am just starting.
Right now what i'm willing to get rid of is a brand new 1gig mp3 player, never been open. Dreamcast, but it needs repairs :/
This Legend of Zelda story book which is out of print!! http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51NRDDQC4NL._SS500_.jpg

and probably my old xbox. which has 4 controllers. and some games I'll never play lol.

I probably have more items around the house too.

Any ideas?

What you're sellin so far is okay! The 1 gig mp3 player sounds cool to me :) I don't remember what I did to get my 360 but it involved a lot of ebay and just working a lot! So maybe lookin around for a job will help ya get the money quick!

If you want a few feedback to make your items sell better, get a magazine subscription!  Most of those sellers automatically leave feedback when you do.

http://books.listings.ebay.com/Magazine-Subscriptions_W0QQcatrefZC6QQdfspZ1QQfromZR10QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQsabfmtsZ1QQsacatZ29253QQsaobfmtsZinsifQQsaprchiZQQsaprcloZQQsocmdZListingItemListQQsofocusZbs

Make sure and read the sellers policy though.  By doing this I got a year subscription to like 3 magazines for about $5 each and I got three feedback :).  Then people started buying my stuff.  Also, if you buy magazines, make sure to get them from different sellers because if you buy 10 things from one seller, that will only count as one feedback on your displayed feedback number.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, also try buying video game stuff locally (via craigslist) and then sell it!  I've been earning a lot of money that way.  A surprisingly good way to earn money is to Nintendo system and game lots.  They have really good resale value. A lot of GameCube games are worth quite a bit now, but the system itself is worth about $30.  DS is another good system to buy on Craigslist.  I once bought a DS lite for $115 that came with Clubhouse games, New Super Mario Bros and ridge racer.  I sold NSMB for $33, Clubhouse games for $25 and kept the DS and Ridge Racer(I could have sold it for around $105 though).

It would be more than that.

25+33+105=163-115=$48

I'd buy some stuff, but I just don't want any of that...If you sold the xbox for a reasonable price I'd think about it, if you sold it with morrowind.

Like I said, don't just sell those things with a reserved price, you can't expect to get all the money in the world, but if you have a reserved price it will discourage (not encourage) your bidders and watchers to bid! If you're crazy like me you'll start all your bids at 99 cents!

Sometimes it pays to be greedy though. If you want a 360 that bad, you will go the distance!

Yeah, but by listing them and not selling them, you're wasting quite a bit of money. And if they don't sell at the price you want them to, there's not really much you can do to make it sell for more.  If it didn't sell once for that price, it's not going sell for that price any other time.

hmm could you guys give more more advice on like everything I NEED MORE DETAIL :-* cuz i'm gonna relist the hannah montana and books again but what else to do to get more bids, what to add in the description, how many pictures, picture quality and so forth.

Also i was thinking of asking people on forums and krap and opening a "fund" for my 360, so people would be able to donate and i would love them. From one xbox live player to another, xbox 1 xbox live hurts, it does. And seeing all your friends on your friends list playing halo 3 saddens myself.
Your thoughts?

Just sell things dude, you're thinking about this way too hard. I already tried donations for my postwhoring fund, do you think anyone gave in to that? For Hannah Montana, it's a WATCH, you can't expect much more than $20 which is pretty much what it ended at. Take off reserved prices. And try to sell more stuff, go ahead and sell your xbox while you still can, don't wait now to sell it later on dawg, just sell it. You have to make sacrifices if you want a 360! If you wait forever, Hannah Montana will be a drag and no one will want her stinkin watch or any of the other stuff you're selling. You're walking into the world of ebay thinking people are rich, well they're there looking for good deals. Don't put reserve on any of your things, and if you don't get what you wanted for it, well it's okay, just get back up and sell more things! It's happened to me quite a few times where I was expecting more, and didn't get much for it. It's all about taking risks.

How bad do you want that 360? For someone just starting an ebay account and with 0 feedback, you're gonna have to not be so selfish about selling things and expecting too much at the start.

I can't exactly sell my xbox at the moment seeing as a I have a xbox live account on there :/
Also yeah i won't be using any more reserved prices. And i'll probably start out with 0.99 bids. And I just got a copy of halo 2 today for 9.98 used at half price books. They sell it used at ebstop for like 26.99 so im thinking ill get like 15 bucks for it.
And I have a 1gig mp3 player that im thinking ill get like well 15-25 for it. and ill try the hannah montana again. and im not sure about the books.

I know you got an xbl account but if you sell all your stuff really quick over the next week, you can sacrifice a couple weeks without xbox live and get maybe $50 for your xbox while you still can! Do it, son! :D

Get yourself some good feedback and then you can start setting the reserve price. I used to shop around for good deals, then resell what I bought for a profit. An xbox with halo or a ps2 with guitar hero are guaranteed high sellers. Buy the systems and the games separate, combine them and sell for more.
I bought a ps1 on ebay oncefor $20, then included tomb raider and sold it for $40.
