Have a look for yourself.
Right click one, go to Open With... and choose wordpad. Also tick the "always open with this program" box.

I personally think it was a dumb decision to make nfo files have that extension, why not choose something that already isn't taken? It makes things so much less confusing.

Well I think it was used ages and ages ago, before windows added their system information to .NFO. (I have what I think is an at-the-time release of lemmings with an NFO).
