50mhz vs 60 mhz - Is there a way to know pre-download?
« on: December 02, 2007, 01:21:35 AM »
Apparently my JVC HDTV won't play 60 mhz games as I have downloaded DOA 2, Soul Calibur, and Sega GT and they wont play on my TV although the graphic shows up on the VMU. Is there a way to know pre-download so I can save myself some time?

NTSC games are all 60Hz, PAL games are all 50 Hz and most DC pal game have the additional option to run at 60 Hz.

It is very odd your new TV doesn't support 60Hz though, I would have a fiddle about with your TV settings.

Also, it is not mHz as that is 50 million/ 60 million refreshes a second. :P

Could it be because I just am still awaiting my cables and am playing with the crappy RF box hook-up? I tried to run it through my VCR and it showed up but only on half the screen.

I got a new TV for my room that only supports 50mhz fully. It plays 60mhz games like 5/6 of the screen.

50Hz TV's are generally PAL only since your trying to play US/jap games they will be run at 50Hz on a pal DC so the problem is that your TV cannot support NTSC video signals this is generally sorted by using a NTSC- PAL converter or RGB scart

PAL dreamcasts are 50Hz by default

You can hack a RF box into a composite cable but will only get a single audio
connection unless you add another pin and move the 5v wire in the DC connector

the black borders you get when running a NTSC game on a Pal machine are caused because NTSC is a smaller
PAL 576 pixels of vertical resolution versus NTSC 480 pixels of vertical resolution.
similar to watching 4:3 on a 16:9 set the empty area is filled with black.

Your VCR could possibly be NTSC compatible (recording) so could be presenting some form of format conversion to PAL.

Since its a HDTV im suprised it doesnt support NTSC or 60hz what model is it?
some only offer NTSC compatiblity on one connection generally one of the scarts
Another possible option would be to change the TV's region in the setup menu

So I thought it was odd that ya'll thought it was odd. I turned my TV around to see theback in case there was some sort of 50/60 switch and plain as day on the back it said JVC 60Hz. I downloaded a version of Sega GT which said 60Hz and it still wouldn't work. I switched to my new RYW cables I got in today and it worked fine. The DOA2 still only showed up on half the screen but I'm now guessing it's the game and not my system.

Thanks for all the help anyway.

I got lucky, I picked up at TV (that took 4 ever to find) that is regionless.
