It takes the same kind of finger dexterity to play either

:|

I'd say.... no.  On a real guitar, you're arching your fingers and hitting the notes with the tips of your fingers, giving a slight circular vibrato (or whatever your favorite vibrato is - I like Vai's ;)), and muting all the other strings >>>>  all with your left hand (unless you're a lefty).

The game can introduce the public to classic rock all it wants - I don't particularly care for the game or the music in it.  Yes, I play guitar; and yes, I've played guitar hero on occasion.  But it gets me upset when Spanish Castle Magic is easier to play on the real guitar than it is for me on guitar hero :P.

Hitting those plastic buttons is nothing like feeling a slick nickel-plated DR string under your finger bone while feeling the subtle vibration as it sustains into eternity  8).

DR does make some nice strings. I think they're cheaper than anything else too.
Hey, somebody should make a game called Dreamcast hero where you have to throw jellybeans into a hole in the wall. Yeah, guitar hero is exactly that much like playing guitar. Well, nevermind, not quite, but if you instead threw vmu's into a hole in the wall and pretended it was a controller slot, hey, there you go.
Think I should nab the copyright?

DR strings usually aren't the cheapest.  I think you're thinking of D'addarios.

Who knows, maybe you are thinking of DRs, heh.  I don't know what you usually spend on strings, but for me - D'addarios are usually $4.25 a pack, and DRs are comparatively $6 a pack.

If you haven't tried them, get a pack of DR pure blues.  They really 'wow' me.  I put brand new D'addarios on my Ibanez Jem, but 3-week old DRs on a spare guitar felt better than the one-day-old D'addarios.

Thats strange, I don't think I've ever heard of D'addarios. I didn't know there was anyone making strings for $4 a pack! I'm used to spending around $10, so the first time I saw a pack of DR's I was ecstatic.

D'addarios are good strings, the bass strings on my classical guitar are D'addario titaniums.

D'addarios and ernie balls are widely known and widely carried by all stores, or so I thought.

That is really weird.  I've never met any guitar player who hasn't heard of those two brands ;).

Maybe it's a little late for me to chime in on guitar hero, but I play guitar and I have no problem with the game. I'm not too bad at it either, but it gets old after a while. You can't improvise and jam like a real guitar. It is weird how sometimes shit is not on the beat, you really have to train yourself to go by looking at the screen and not listening to the drums.

At least now I can mention how much I enjoy Deep Purple, Van Halen, or Motley Crue and people at least know who I am talking about. Shit, I remember showing people Buckethead clips when I first heard of him and people thought I was nuts for being interested in some dude with a bucket on his head playing guitar.

Bernie, I couldn't believe it either. There are people out there that don't even know a song like Jump when you sing it to them. Mostly chicks but dudes too.

Van Halen was never really up my alley. But yeah, they are definitely a talented band. No question there. I'll say this though, Van Halen, not Van Hagar!
