Title: ATTENTION XBOX LIVE MEMBERS
Post by: Donkeyboy on January 30, 2008, 08:43:49 AM
It's time.

Go get your MS points ready.  Rez HD is here, and even if you don't think it's the greatest thing ever, at least support the decision to release a DC classic online.  It'll ensure that more titles will follow suit - such as Ikaruga, Space Channel 5, and countless other titles that deserve to have a second chance at life beyond the 'Cast.  Thanks for your time.

I think you have probably got this point across by now... ;)

...and yet I cannot stress it enough, actually.  Everyone who owns a 360 should be getting this game now.

I stayed up until 3am EST just to download this game, and I stayed up until 630am playing it.  It's fucking gorgeous.  Every re-released game should get the "Rez Treatment."  No jaggies, new sounds, new visual effects, 60 frames per second and in HD.  This is what I've been suspecting all along: that Rez was a game that was released FAR ahead of its time, and only now, in 2008, does it catch up with where it needed to be.  If they make DLC for this game, then I know that there is proof that there is a God and he loves us dearly.

Count your lucky stars, if all goes well, we'll see Ikaruga up in February.

if i had a 360, i would not buy it just to spite you.

id rather have SotN anyway, so i wouldnt have to pull my disc out.

EDIT: for the record, im surrently downloading the ps2 version, so ill know whether my above SotN comment is true.

well, I just got the best of both worlds. SOTN and REZHD. just spent my remaining 1600 points.  I'm going to have t pick up some more points eventually for Street fighter HD, Ikaruga, and samurai showdown 2... when they're all eventually released.

I couldn't agree more with this, and this is why I feel it needs support.  Just like how Prince of Persia was redone from the ground up with new visuals and sound.  This is how to re-imagine and re-release a game.  Once I can srounge up $10, a small amount I know(well $20 actually), I will be getting Rez.

???

rez is a pretty neat game, but i really don't think it deserves this kind of attention.  but whatev.

I don't think it does either. I saw it on youtube, haven't played it before but it didn't look like it had a lot of freedom or control to it, you're just shooting things, the only good thing about it could be the music. Don't get me wrong, I love random games, but this is a random game with problems.
Title: Re: ATTENTION XBOX LIVE MEMBERS

At it's core Rez is like Space Harrier.  But little things like how some of the graphics "pulse" to the music, killing enemies in certain ways enhances the audio to make it sound, to a small degree, like you are making music, and then just old school on-rails shooting.

Maybe a little too much attention yes, but more games of this nature need to be put on services like Live and PSN.

Now if we could get a spiffed up version of Panzer Dragoon I & II, as well as Space Harrier.  If that happens I'll be as bad as Donkeyboy is now.

It's important from the aspect that if people spend the $10 for a game that promises something different from the bullshit norm, then we'll see more games of those varieties appear.  Rez is not the greatest game ever.  It's nowhere even close.  And I can say that with a straight face.  But what I can say is that it is a game that did something different than everyone else, it did it then, and it's doing it now.  Nothing comes close to the audio/visual/tactile fusion that Rez offers, and that deserves a solid chance to bee seen/heard/felt, now more than ever with the addition of refined HD visuals, 5.1 audio and multiple controller vibration support (laugh if you want to, but the feature is actually quite cool).

If you want to keep playing point-click-kill game #3, #4 and Online, then fine by me.  Go right ahead.  This isn't meant for you.  What it is meant for is for people who demand something more from this industry.  And those people will be the ones who drive this thing once FPS becomes like fighting games or 2D platformers are now - just an ancient novelty, and nothing more.  But games that benefit of a unique vision will prevail - just look at Katamari - something never seen/heard/felt will be remembered far more fondly by those who took the time to actually give it a proper chance.  If you don't want to do that, that's your prerogative, but you're the one who's missing out in the end and robbing yourself from an experience that you may have liked to have had in retrospect.

Which can't come soon enough.  I'm sick of FPS, in the end they are all the same, no matter how awesome they look(CoD 4), how great the atmosphere(Bioshock), or even how unique thier gameplay is(Mteroid Prime 3).  Although props to the Prime series, it was the first FP title to make me actually feel like I was looking through the eyes of the character.  Problem is when I looked down I saw boobs.  :P

Okay, this is coming from a guy who has toes (Willy....hmmm...and Lucas....double hmm....) kissing/making out as his sig.  Just for proof throughout the ages, and I quote:

Willy and Lucas on a hot summer day

::end quote::

Something about pots, kettles and the color black comes to mind.  At least I went gaga over a game that promises something a little different.  You're going gaga over a lifestyle choice that promises something a little different, and I'm not going to hate on that, I'm just going to step away and make sure my ass is facing away from you.  :P

Hey Donkeyboy.
I've downloaded the trial of Rez HD (no local gameshops have MS points in stock).
Am I right in thinking that, in reality, I've downloaded the full game and once I get the points I just "unlock" the full version?

It is absolutely stunning on the eyes & ears though, isn't it?

[edit]
BTW it costs us the equivalent of $20 (I think) here in the UK.
Title: Re: ATTENTION XBOX LIVE MEMBERS
Post by: Donkeyboy on February 06, 2008, 03:42:41 AM
Yes, you're correct in thinking that.  The "trial version" is the full version of the game that hasn't been purchased, therefore there's no way to play the full version until 800 points have been exhausted on "unlocking" the game's DRM to your machine.

Yes, it is stunning.  I never thought vector graphics could look that nice.

If it costs you $20, that's fucked up.  It costs us 800 points here, which at a conversion rate of $1 to 80 points, 800 points = $10.  The conversion rates for English Pounds or Euros may differ, I'm not too sure.  I'd be interested to see the international conversion table, actually.

they screw the british over with the exchange rate all the time. kinda gets annoying (when I lived there). the british end up paying 2x as much for the same thing.

Gayness.  Well, for all the people who would care, of which there are none - I am now ranked #53 in the world in Rez HD.  And I plan to go upwards.

Slight mis-calculation with cost.
Still costs us 800 points but we pay around £18 ($36) for 2100 points so it's actually around £6.85 ($13.7).

Not a big variation really but should there be any difference in cost when it's a digital download?????

BTW £6.85 for, what may turn out to be, one of the best games of the year isn't too bad! :)

Sales tax dont mean anything, here its 8.4-9.0 percent depending on the city, thats a max of 90 cents for 10 dollars, there still paying 2 dollars more for the game....... HAHAHAHA glad im not british.

well duh... hello to socialism.

Instead of buying services on your own in the free market, you pay alot in taxes.

That way you're only paying for the services... and a huge gov't bureaucracy.
Title: Re: ATTENTION XBOX LIVE MEMBERS
Post by: Elite Evil on February 10, 2008, 04:14:34 PM
Yeah but all the services are being privatised and at the same time tax is rising.

Ouch.   Sorry, Elite.  :-*

So, they're giving you less now... but tax is still rising?

Yep and they are licensing out parts of the NHS to private companies which obviously run at a profit and so it works out much worse off for everyone.

^^ Lol, just read the above posts and we are talking about taxes and NHS? IMO people dog the NHS too much, end of the day its free health care, although there are loads of inequalities in the service provided and stuff. My family is with BUPA anyways....
