[DC] Extracting Original Rars [001,002 files etc]
« on: March 03, 2008, 02:24:09 PM »
Just a very quick tutorial as some new people get confused when they extract the downloaded rar file and then don't know what to do with the oRARS. Most of the games on this site have oRARS

Step 1
Extract downloaded rar file with Winrar by double clicking on it
Select "extract to"

You will then see a window like this:
Leave these settings as is. Click OK

Step 2
You should then have a folder similar to this:

The .sfv file will check the integrity of the oRARS. (If you have RapidCRC installed)
The 001,002 files are the game rars containing the image file.
The MSInfo doc (.nfo) is the release info. This gives you such information as who ripped the game, file format etc. If you wish to view this information, just right click the .nfo file and open with notepad:

Extracting the Image file
Double click the 001 file and you should see a window like this:

Simply select "extract to" again and OK in the window that pops up, and in a couple of minutes you will have your game image!!

Happy Burning!

Good work!  I would add something about the file extension in the title, because people who don't know how to extract original RARs don't know what they are :P.

edit: And this tutorial would be under the DC category, because the only original RARs that people will have on this site will be Dreamcast related.  P2M tutorials would be put under PC because you can upload anything using P2M.

So you don't extract anything other than 001?

Your windows probably isn't configured to show file extensions, you're doing it fine.  You can't really mess up extracting a game :P.

but that doesnt explain why the cdi image isnt working though...

does MotW need a Utopia Disc?

Honestly I just can't get the damned thing to work.

No, it doesn't need a boot disk.  Try burning the game on a different CD burner, maybe your Dreamcast doesn't like CDs burned with your burner.  Sorry if you've said this before, but you're using Alcohol 120% and burning at a slow speed, right?

i think that the extraction is causing all your grief. I'm almost positive. Update your winrar and make sure that all the files you're extracting are rar files and not 7zip.  :D

Wouldn't it give an error if something happened during the extraction?

the errors I am getting are within Discjuggler, whenever I try to doubleclick on the file it wont even open, and when i try and open it with discjuggler it tells me it needs to be a cdj file. I try to select it after choosing All Files, but then it still wont load.

Go to an explorer window and click "Tools" and go to "Folder Options".  Then click the "View" tab and uncheck the hide extensions check box if it already isn't unchecked.

Ok...I checked the .sfv files on Last Hope, Cannon Spike, and Bangai O and it said the files were missing on all of them.  So I downloaded them again and they were still missing.  I got all the files I downloaded for these goes from this site so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong.  I'm sorry for being such an annoying noob, but I really want these games so any help is greatly appreciated.  Woodieq...is that your DC modded in your avvy?  If so where did you get that done?

EDIT: I got it to work.  For some reason it wouldn't allow me to do it in WinRAR, but when I extracted the files straight from the folder I downloaded them to it worked just like you guys said it would...thanks!

That's just a Dreamcast he found on the internet and thought was cool so he put it as his avatar.  Glad you figured out the problem!

Yeah thanks darkNiGHTS!  I have almost all of the DC games I want now.  I tried checking out Underground Gamer for the others I'm missing, but I'm having no luck there.  I'm very happy as of now though.

If it is x.7zip.001 you will need to extract it with 7zip, not winrar?
