Reicast - Android DC emulator
« on: February 23, 2014, 08:18:48 PM »
I've been playing with this for a few days now, and I have to say, it's almost perfect. It runs at 100% speed and on Grandia 2 there's just some very slight graphical glitches. It even runs pretty well on my xperia play. Anyone else try this out?

What device are you getting 100% on? I'll have to give it a try.

On my droid razr m. I've only tried grandia 2 so far, but I've seen videos of soul calibur running at what looks like 100% speed as well. From what I hear shenmue and skies of arcadia bug out, but it's only been on the market for a few months and is being actively worked on.
I believe this is the fabled nulldce emulator that was teased years ago if anyone recalls that.

I have a Nvidia Shield on it's way and I've been looking forward to using Reicast on it. Does saving work yet?

Saving works, in game saves only though, no save states. Let us know how you like that shield, I've been on the fence for a long time!
PS, the build on google play is somewhat outdated, you can find test builds with much better menu's and options on the team's github page. The emulator still crashes if you minimize it though (minimize? whatever it's called on android anyway)

Yes, it is, it uses NullDC and NullDCE sources apparently. The best news about this is that it will be released for Windows as well. We might finally have a solid modern DC emulator for the PC.

PS - here's beta builds:

EDIT: Holy crap, apparently a port to the Wii is planned. Please let this be real.

One of the developers mentioned the possibility of porting pcsx2 next. I don't know how possible that is as my pc can't even run it very well, but it would be neat all the same.

I'm going to install the apk on my Galaxy S4.  I want to see if it can generate sufficient levels of hype.

If I had to guess, it would be along these lines.

Interesting, so reicast basically means nulldc.

I'm going to have to try this out at some point.  Id love to get neo4all working in it, just so I could have my phone emulating a dreamcast, emulating the neogeo.  I could only imagine this would be godlike with the xperia play, it's too bad sony never made a follow up.

It's about as good as it gets on the x play, only problem is it doesn't work on gingerbread and when I run ICS I can't get a signal from Verizon. :(

Your video? I made one of Shenmue but was too lazy to upload it. ;)

I've finally got time to test Reicast on the Shield and I must say, for it's early stage this is incredibly good. I haven't noticed a framerate drop in any games so far, which have been PSO, Legacy of Kain, SA 1 and 2, and Power Stone. The South Park games don't feel like booting up in this current stage of development.
The only graphical bug I've experienced is that in PSO, the pause menu sometimes looks a little skewed but doesn't ruin the experience. http://i.imgur.com/Rr8jPB4.png

Saving works as well, and I'm sort of glad there's no save states so that I'm not tempted to use them. I mean, I know I'm emulating the games anyway, but I try to look at it as a portable DC because I don't have the smarts to take my own DC apart and make one myself.
