Utopia Boot Disc not working...
« on: March 23, 2009, 01:48:32 AM »
Hi, this is my first day of burning Dreamcast games so please bear with me :)

So I found a Dreamcast game I wanted to play (RE3: Nemesis), I downloaded it and burned it onto a CD using DiscJuggler. I went to put it in my Dreamcast but it did not load. I went back and saw that I may have needed a boot cd, so I downloaded the Utopia Boot Disc and burned it onto a CD using DiscJuggler. I put that in as well, and it still did not work. When I press the 'Play' button in the menu, it says to Insert the game disc, and there is no disc in audio. My other original discs seem to work. Am I missing something? Please help me! Thank you  :D

Did you follow a tutorial from our tutorials section? :)

If not, try it, if you have then post a more detailed description of how you burned it. :)

Here is how I burned it the first time:

Downloaded DiscJuggler, and my ROM (Resident Evil 3: Nemesis for DC), and loaded a blank 700MB disk into my computer. I followed a YouTube video to set all of the settings, burned the disc and went to my Dreamcast. Didn't work and led me to the screen with Play, Memory Card, etc. and pressing Play only tells me to insert a CD. I tried to use the Utopia Boot Disc but that did not work either.

Next I followed a tutorial on this website, downloaded Alcohol 120% and followed all of the instructions. Same result.

If you need any more details just lemme know!

EDIT: I realized that one definite problem was that I was using DJ Trial which only records up to 700MB, all of the games I've tried were more than 700MB... XD

I downloaded RE:CV for DC last night, used the full version of DJ to burn it, but it still has not worked. Both Nemesis and CV have been labeled self-boot but they aren't self-booting...

EDIT 2: Just tried re-burning the Utopia Boot Disc on Alcohol 120% with lowest speed possible, still does not work... =[

The lowest speed possible isn't the best. Assuming you have a modern burner and media try 16X.

If you still have no success it might be your burner or media, try writing them from a different PC or with different discs.

I think I found the problem... my disks are only 700MB and both RE3 and CV are over 700MB... I'm such an idiot...  :( Though I wish DJ would tell me that the image was too big before I wasted like 20 CDs!

I don't think so, I have RC:CV on a 700 MB CD and it works fine. Wasn't there a newer Dreamcast model near the end that wouldn't play copies?

I wouldn't know, I got my Dreamcast when I was around 5. But I do remember that I got my Dreamcast for X-mas of '99 so my Dreamcast is relatively old. =]

It's okay though, I just bought both games from eBay for really cheap. Thank you both for your help though!
