According to this press release from BethSoft Japan, tells us that apparently, Japanese people are still kind of sensitive about that whole atomic bomb thing. As a result, a quest where the player can choose to destroy an entire town is being cut from the Japanese version of the game. Additionally, the Fat Man weapon will be renamed, and some of the gorier kill animations for humans and certain ghouls will be cut. It's currently unknown if this will affect the Asian release as well.

As a nice stereotype, Japs are the most perverted and sadistic of all nations and don't censor much violence (tentacle rape, anyone) but I kind of understand their view on nuclear bombs.

Ever play Medal of Honor: Rising Sun?  The very first level has you playing as a sailor on the USS Arizona, complete with all the horrors of a sinking battleship.  It's history, so I'm not gonna complain about or be offended by it.  The day we rewrite/censor history in order to be politically-correct is the day we'll have much suffering.

A game that has nothing to do with the bombs dropped on Japan (or even similar circumstances), shouldn't even BE offensive.  That's why the Japanese gamers are protesting this censorship.  Nobody wants a dumbed-down game, except for the politicians.
