I use TDK, cuz there always $7.99 for a 50 pack and i have been using them for years on audio, data backups (before DVDs), dreamcast games and just about everything. Can anyone tell me y on a lot of the DC games it says to burn them at 8X? i have made allmost 150 games and burned them all at 40X and they all work as good as the org copy, But in time cuz i burnt them at 40X will they stop working?

man i was gonna give those TDK's a try looks like ill be sticking to the ugly Verbatim's for now just to be safe

wow AgentOOSega your really splashing out on cases i would love to do this with proper labels/spines but im limited with space so even my retail DVD cases are boxed away with the discs filed in slips.

Around three people that I've helped who had trouble burning games were using TDK media, and when they tried another brand, it worked fine.  It might depend on what CD of their you buy though.

If a game works initially when you burn it at 40x, then the game is fine.  If you have a lower quality burner and you burn it fast, it might not work correctly.

Burn at the lowest speed to get the best compatibility for old consoles. I burn my CD/DVD for them at 4x/8x. hehe
Play with the best or lose like the rest.

TDKs are crap in general, the foil separated from the plastic and came right off when I tried to clean them.

I guess its where you live the Q of the disk are not the same maybe different factorys ,cuz i got a TDK cd i made for my car over 5 years ago and if you hold it up to the light you can see light coming thru and the scars are deep, But the disk plays with out a skip. And that same batch i made some DC games and now i can not copy them and the DC does not hard reboot it loads the game as if it where G rom.

Nowdays it doesn't matter which brand cd-r, they almost all use the same dye. If you've got a good writer it will make all the difference :) Imation is almost always the cheepest brand, and their yudens ;)

To a degree...I was using the cheapest cd's and alcohol doesn't even attempt to write it, it just tells you there is something wrong with the burn process. As soon as I switched to tdk gold it worked perfectly

Ya Yooooooose!!

Ah well I suppose the off-brands are kind of a wildcard sort of thing. Do you remember what brand they were? Might have been age old discs too.

I get a 25-pack of Maxell CD-R Pros for about $8 at Wal-Mart that are made in Japan .  Definitely worth it.  I don't like to compromise when it comes to burning backups/copies/rips.

I do plan on picking up some Taiyo Yuden discs when I get around to it.

I've never seen any difference with different CDR brands.
I've had "expensive" packs of 10.
I usually buy spindles of 100 that cost next to nothing.

For Dreamcast, burn it slow and 99.9% of the time, it works.

DVD's are different though if burning for XBOX. That can be a big pain in the arse. :)
