Question about 360 soft mod.
« on: October 08, 2008, 06:18:05 AM »
Well, I'm thinking about softmodding my 360. I'm pretty sure some people on the forum have already done it. I've got the basic idea that you update the frimware on the dvd drive in the console and it will run backups and lose region lock. The last time I looked into this, the frimware had to be stealthed or undetectable to MS, same with the games. So it will read games at a certain speed and this type of stuff.  Anyways I'm wondering: what type of risks there are, does this stealth technique still work, how difficult the operation is, and if I were to do this would I still beable to use live.

Ive been doing it for over a year now.  Havent been caught.  Just dont be stupid.  Dont play games before release on live, or even connected to live.  I usually flash all my 360's with the 12x firmware,  5x sucks and the load times are slow.  If you use the ixtreme firmware (Youd have to be retarded not to) the firmware wont allow the 360 to boot games that arent properly stealthed anyway.  Before you burn the ISO,  Check the ISO with a program called DVDMulleter.  Also,  i dont know where you heard this from,  but it does NOT get rid of the region lock.  If you have an NTSC 360,  You need to download NTSC releases.  Period.  No way around it.  Or id be playing Oneechanbara Vortex right now.  If you have any more questions,  Please post back.

Well I just bought the sata card for the job. I also got another question, if I were to get the rrod (though I shouldnt since I've got a falcon board and I know I could x-clamp it it did get it) but I want to know if there is any stratergy in removing the seal, or anyway of keeping it intact, or if theres a way to buy another one.

No no and no.  Sometimes the seal will just slide off the plastic nicely, sometimes it will rip and fuck the seal up.  The xclamp trick does work but not forever.  As long as you have the new GPU heatsink, youve re-applied some arctic silver to the GPU and CPU and reset the heatsinks, and got some talismoon whisper fans or some other high-rpm third party fans, you should be all set.

Ive seen vids of people using heat guns to take the void stickers off. but its not fool proof.
I went as far as going to a label maker to get new void stickers, but the guy cant do it.
is there a place where I can buy the new GPU sink?
