Title: need help booting DC back ups
Post by: SDulsky on October 28, 2014, 11:20:25 PM
hello everyone,

not entirely sure if this website is still active seeing how alot of the posts ive noticed are from around 2012 and 2010... but i never really had a dreamcast..just recently got one for cheap and found out you can burn games for the system without having to mess with the insides and modding and all of that (NICE) my system was made in feb 2000 (so its one of the systems that can easily read backups).. well i burned some of my fav games aka sonic adventure 2... and i popped it in.. nothing (yes i followed the tutorial) i used disc juggler... switched to mode 2.. checked RAW and burned at 16x... okay so.. found out i needed a possible Boot disc... i downloaded utopia 1.1 and 1.3... popped it in..they started up and it asks for me to insert the disc.. i do as directed and it just sits there and absolutely nothing happens...at all... ive let it sit there for like 5 min..does nothing.. and not only has this done that for sonic adventure 2 backup... but just about every backup i have put in there... it does nothing and ive wasted about 10 blank discs....what the hell am i doing wrong? i read up online as much as i could and it apparently works for everyone else.. i am confused

im just gonna shoot at the wind here and ask if your burning the archived files to disc or did you actually extract the the disc image first?

well i got the ".CDI" image file from coolroms.com... also tried emuparadise and extracted the .rar files and tried that as well...didnt get much progress....out of the 25 discs i bought...4 of them i got working from just burning the image (gauntlet legends, sonic adventure, RE2 Disc 1.. and code veronica disc 1) all the others were a complete failure and i threw em all away =/

If 4 of them work and the utopia disk worked then you must be mostly doing it right. Most games do not need a boot disc.

Maybe try writing at a different speed or try some different CDRs. Does it read real dreamcast discs ok?

Use ImgBurn. These days better to get gdemu or sd card adaptor though.
