what the title says
http://www.fastsilicon.com/latest-news/microsoft-admits-all-xbox360s-are-defective.html?Itemid=60
so it looks like all 360's could take a dump eventually
-
LOL that's the LAST thing you want to admit. Of course what one of the comments said is true:
The 360 will only fail if you keep it locked up in a tight confined space where the heat can't escape. If you keep your unit on a shelf where air can flow around it easily and the fan can pull in fresh air, it won't overheat. Unfortunately, the unit is very loud because of the hi-powered fan and most people want to keep it in a cabinet to cut the noise. I just turn the volume up really loud.
Seriously if you jumble it up with no space, of course it's going to die. It's a fairly good system, they just need to drop the price and make it a more reliable system. They're already beating ps3 2 to 1. They can afford it. $1 billion is like a penny to them.
-
That comment is somewhat true, but my friend is on his fourth Xbox, and he plays it on the floor. No way there's not enough airflow there.
-
lol yeah ... dude I went through like 3 xbox's ... but I'm lucky this 360 has lasted me since Christmas :D
-
They know that after Halo 3 drops, it definitely won't be a problem. 3 years for a warrantee is mighty generous, considering that they are paying for every repair in full - and Halo 3 is about to clock 5 million PREorders. At $60 to $130 a pop, pick your flavor, that's a SHITLOAD of money.
-
Halo 3 is their savior right now. The money generated from Halo 3 will trampoline them billions of dollars, and enable them to just not give a shit about warrantees and just give them out and make us shut up a bit ;)
-
I want to see an official microsoft report that confirms this
The 360 will only fail if you keep it locked up in a tight confined space where the heat can't escape. If you keep your unit on a shelf where air can flow around it easily and the fan can pull in fresh air, it won't overheat. Unfortunately, the unit is very loud because of the hi-powered fan and most people want to keep it in a cabinet to cut the noise. I just turn the volume up really loud.
I can agree that will make them more prone to failing but that isnt the only cause of the failures
and to note the 3 yr warranty only covers the ring of death problem not GPU damage or Disk drive problems as many 360 owners are reporting
-
Disc problems only occur if you're the kind of retard that moves the fucking unit while the disc is spinning. No, really - that's the reason. Keep it properly ventilated, keep it still, you're good. My nephew's 360 is one of the original units and it's still kicking because of not placing it somewhere with no airflow and not moving the goddamn thing while it's on.
-
It makes alot of sense to keep it ventilated, but it still sucks that you have to be so careful with these things.
My Saturn is still kicking 12 years after it was made with no repairs (and the last 2 years it even had a modchip in it ;)).
Kind of makes you wonder if your 360 will still be working in 2019, when Microsoft has stopped supporting it entirely.
-
2019? I say 2011. :D
-
I play my 360 a lot so I imagine it will let me down in the next year or so.
-
Yeah, but at least you can send it to Microsoft and get it fixed, and then shipped right back to you - all free of charge.
-
I never got a warranty so uhhh ... yeah?
-
I thought they just extended the warranty on all 360's, not for sure since I don't have one but I could have sworn they said you get either 3 years on older 360's or something like that for free.
-
ALL 360's are covered for three years, which means that even if you bought one of the first ones, it's still under 1-1/2 years left. New ones are under 3 from the point of sale.
-
So I could send in my 360 RIGHT now and get a new one for free?
-
Only the ring of death error is covered under the warranty
-
Put it like this - you get on the phone with MS and bitch harshly enough, and you'll get what you need (provided you didn't break any kind of seal on the console that voids the warranty).
-
I'll argue that I've wasted $400 for a piece of shit 360 and I have every right to get a new one. It's not my fault.
-
That's what my cousin did, and they told him to just pay $30-something to get the warranty renewed, and they'd fix it.
-
That's good then. I just really don't want my 360 goin out on me and then me not having anywhere to run to to get it replaced!
-
That's what my cousin did, and they told him to just pay $30-something to get the warranty renewed, and they'd fix it.
Yeah, but now with the 3-year, all you'd have to do is bitch hardcore and it'd get fixed on the cheap as free.
-
I wish they'd do a price drop soon. They really think we're rich or somethin with all these $60 games and $600 xbox 360 elites out.
-
360 Elites are only $480, homey.
-
I knew someone would correct me. My apologies :)

For a second there I thought that said honey, I even did a classic 3 stooges double take.
-
it's usually spelled homie :D
-
I just think that anything spelled with -ie at the end is worth 2 gay points.
-
HEY! sometimes I spell my name ending with 'ie'. :(
-
It doesn't count, Jamie. :P
I bet that's your name.
-
No, my name is Sarah. Why do you ask?
