Title: VGA -> Component adapter

heya there, chaps. So yeah, I have a dreamcast and a Plasma TV that doesn't have a VGA input. is there some sort of vga to component adapter out there? ive been looking, but all i see are expensive transcoders. I cant stand playing Grandia ii in ultra bluriness.

Unless you spend some money on a transcoder, I don't think there's any way to convert vga to component or hdmi. I think you may be able to convert vga to dvi with a cheap adapter, but I'm not sure how many hdtv's actually have dvi in.

you need a transcoder if you want the vga 480p signal, a cheap cable that goes from vga to component wont work. http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&p_id=8668&seq=1&format=2 (http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&p_id=8668&seq=1&format=2) i have no expirence with that thing but i bet you can find something out there that works for less than 50 bucks.

typically you want something that just converts the 480p signal to another 480p signal rather then upscaling it. a lot of time the hdmi upscalers do unnecessary things to convert the signal to 1080p, causing video lag or degrading the image quality. however sometimes certain tvs, mostly older hdtvs have trouble scaling the converted 480p signal to your tv, which in that case your probably better off with the hdmi upscaler. this stuff is all case by case cause everyone's tv is different and scales things differently. you might find that you have to try a few different things before getting the right recipe for your set up.

my current hdtv has a vga input and dreamcast looks superb on it. the dreamcast 480p is even better than some of the systems that came after it!
