Title: DC Laser Alignment
Post by: axpert989 on January 21, 2010, 05:28:04 PM
Until about 2 weeks ago I havent played my Dreamcast in say at least a few years maybe 5. Iam in my 30's and just dont play video games really. However I am and have been a Sega Fan Boy since the Sega Master System Days. I still have my SMS and Genesis, Game Gear etc. Im not sure  really what inspired or how I even started 2 weeks back backing up ISO's/CDI's and playing my Dc. I have my original Launch day Dreamcast and remember that day well. Well I started reading up on the Web and came up on a laser alignment article. Im sure old news to you guys and maybe its even in the Tutorial section here. I reluctantly opened up my baby. Clean the lens blew piled up dirt over the years. I also recalibrated my lens. Since then it has been firing up games with a better sucess rate. Not perfect but a big improvement. Nowing how tempermental DC can be I knew that wouldnt be highly improbable. On 1 or 2 games the in game music would stop/pause /not play. Since doing this this problem seems to have been corrected. Now its only been a few days so the jury is still out on how much of improvement(crossing fingers) it really made so far Im liking the results.

I had the same thing happen to a PS2 not too long ago. Except the part that spins the disc had to be shifted upwards.
