I've only seen one review (an 8.0 by OXM) and I'm thinking what the hell.
Why so serious? Why so harsh? The review wasn't very deep so I'm thinking whoever played it and reviewed it is some dumb hopeless nagger of an intern that has no appreciation for what a game really is.
Anyone getting it or gotten it? What are your ideas?
There is a 90% chance that I'm getting the game regardless. Nothing could stop me from loving what I've loved before. The best hopeful line I read from their review was "This is definitely the best sequel of any game."
But an 8.0? When everyone's given 10's for all the other games? What's going on here, why would they possibly chip off 2 points for a game like that? Lame!
-
I agree will. the same group gave fallout 3 a damned 10. whoever played it obviously hasnt played other fallout games. In all fairness Id say the scores should have been reversed.
-
I love seeing the big name games getting harsh reviews, as long as the guy personally found something unappealing to the game he aught to have that effect his review, I'm sure a diehard fan of fable would give it a 10 while taking it out of the box.
-
I want to get it ,but I have to wait for PC version, but it's worth the wait.
-
I just got the game and so far I love it :) I spent a lot of time getting money with their lil added Pub Games thing before hand, so it's been worth every gold point to give me a good start in the game for sure.
I really like it! I don't care what reviewers say!
-
Hehe everyone's a critic - remember that. One man's trash is another man's treasure and so on....
-
They shouldn't be giving out 10's.
Just goes to prove that journalistic integrity went out the window. These sites hand out scores for money.
-
Honestly I dont know how they could of reviewed it that fast. I mean I just came out yesterday.
I already bought it, I was going to get the collectors edition but they cut so much of the extra content out of it. Well that and I found the standard issue fable 2 for 10$ off. so I got it for 49$ (cad).
.
Theres quite a few differences from the first one, perhaps the reviewer didnt adjust to the new setup well. The whole no mini map but a dog instead is a pretty big change in the game mechanics. Personally I would of preferred it to of been set further in the past and the combat feels different from fable 1s (that might just be me).
Overall I love the game so far, it isnt fable 1 but thats not a bad thing. The game engine is different and the game is alot bigger.
The amount of work and attention to detail in this game is amazing. They put alot of work into to it and it shows. I've saw games no where near as good as this achieve ratings of 8 and i think the review is a little harsh.

Journalistic Integrity? That's a bit of an oxymoron isn't it? :)

was poking about on the webbernet, and I found this! Go http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/splash/f/fable2/ If you own fable 2 and want some items and free gold.
-if you beat the chicking kicking game you get 500 gold
-in the fable 2 experience, you can complete it 3 times and get all 3 items. You can get a tatoo card/something I forgot, an expression book/hair dye, and a chicken outfit.

Well before video gaming became mainstream (i.e.: when people that played video games were referred to as dorks), gaming websites and magazines gave more unbiased reviews. Now big media conglomerates bought out the mags and websites. So you can expect great reviews of games that brought them alot of advertising revenue.

NICE Skully, thanks! I just did that! I wondered what the chest in the Hero's Guild was for, why it wouldn't open! :)
I'm trying to think really hard about what's not good about this game, and really I can't think of any. The environment is incredible. Everyone actually speaks in the game (besides you of course but who cares). The only thing I can think of ... might be that the story is a bit familiar from the first one, kind of following the same pattern ... you start off as a child for not even 5 minutes, and then it jumps 10 years or whatever and a lot of things have changed just because of the wish you made and the consequences you chose to take. Is the main character related to the first hero from Fable 1 at all? So far I just know I'm gaining renown and going after that Lucian guy and collecting Heroes to fight with me.
I just love getting money every 5 minutes, whether I'm playing or not. It's so incredible :)

I want the game, I recently downloaded fable lost chapters for pc and love that, but I want a better experience with fable 2 ;]
-
You'll get an even better experience out of Fable 2. Some of the things that go on in Fable 1 are mildly important to experience before playing Fable 2, but nothing so serious that you'll be lost out of touch when playing this one.
One of the first things you get to do once you start up in Fable 2 is kick a chicken. Well those boogers were in Fable 1 too. :)
Ok I think the only problems I first experienced when I was playing was that 1) the bread crumb trail isn't always consistent. It keeps going in and out, makes it kind of hard to follow. It's like the game is trying too hard to lay the bread crumbs as you're running, instead of just laying them all down at once. If you keep changing direction it re-calibrates and makes a new trail from where you've run off to. 2) I use the right joystick to look around as I'm moving, kind of like in Halo games ... and yet the sensitivity can't be changed. If you notice this, don't fret, don't let it bother you because you will quickly get used to it as I have. 3) I just recently married two different people ... and they both keep calling everyone in the family a cheater ... including me. Now, if I was the man in the relationship, I'd be happy as fuck to have two women married to me (I chose a woman the first time around because I'd rather follow behind a woman than a man just for good measure ;D )

I decided to make a list of things I like about the game since I just hit a couple things I didn't entirely like. I wanna make it clear that this game is definitely worth buying despite these tiny little problems (I'm sure I'm not the only one).
1) Having the dog is a BLAST. He's always so helpful and makes the adventure a lot easier. He doesn't do very much help when it comes to killing bad guys, but more than anything he's just a nice friend to have along with you. He's not annoying or stupid, he's just there for you. He's very realistic. When you're running along, he actually looks behind him to make sure you're following him, I just think that's cool.
2) You can buy stores. And that means whatever profit they make, you receive every 5 minutes.
3) You can marry more than one person, man or woman, you can chose whether to have protected or unprotected sex (they had condoms back then?!), you can even get STD's apparently ... ?!
4) Ability power up's are very similar to Fable 1.
5) You get guns this time around. Perfect! It's fun to just switch between swords and guns and use them in combo's.
6) This game is fuckin HUGE. And each chapter in the story progresses the game by a certain number of years, and it changes a lot of things in the environment. Wicked.

There are a couple things that I miss from fable 1...
I'm not going to lie, I like mini maps alot. Fable 2 is just so huge, i've gotten lost a couple time while looking for something specific like a demon door. That and I also liked the mechanics of combat in fable 1 a little more. I liked the way you locked on target better, and how cross bows/bows would increase in power the longer you held the button down.
-
I agree with you there ... the mini map would be totally helpful especially when I'm in a town where all the cool shit is.
-
You know, I like this game so much I think I might jut buy a live subscription and maybe even the wifi adapter (they're 75$ at zehrs super stores). Using my laptop as a network bridge make live really cumber some.
-
Do you have any friends that are playin it right now? I don't :( and I wish I did, but if you do get live let me know! I'd love to play with ya broski! I did the laptop wireless bridge trick for a while too and just like you it just became a bit too much. So I resolved to use some 3rd party wireless adapter. It works fine.

For anyone that didn't get the Limited Collector's Edition but would like to have the LCE Hal's Outfit, here's the code for it, I just got an email about it but I've beaten Fable 2 and need to get another game :) maybe Fallout 3 or Saints Row 2.

-
Let me know if you did it and it worked! I hope you did! I beat the game and I'd love to try out the suit but I decided to just throw it out here and hope someone worthy of taking it would get it instead :)
-
Damn, this worked nice! Omega thanks. got an extra quest out of too, even though it was a short one. Will if you need a favor, give me a holla. (ie: 1/2 hour session of butt sex) lol

Yeah I know all about it, I am an old bastard you know :) I was one of those dorks. I still remember spending all my money on EGM. My newsagent had to specially order it in from the states for me. Do they still make that magazine? They weren't often wrong.

Glad it worked Skully! :D I heard the sword is fast but not very powerful :( but I bet the outfit looks SWEET! Can you add dye to it and change its colors?!
Happy early Christmas Skully :-[
