VGA box for gamecube
« on: July 31, 2007, 01:54:57 AM »
Does anyone know what the best kind of VGA box to play my gamecube on a computer is?

I have no idea. :(

Get a Gamecube component cable and mod it.  It uses the digital out.

How would you do that?

Doesn't a monitor VGA cable have extra pins for the refresh rate and so on?

Found the instructions:

http://www.geocities.co.jp/Technopolis-Mars/9984/ngcrgb_e.htm

Has this warning at the end:

This mod will work like as transcoders. So, you need progressive output. To invoke progressive mode is depend of software.Check your game's manual carefully.Your first invoke to progressive mode, you will need another TV.
Most of VGA monitors can not accept 15kHz signals. When you using this cable for VGA, you can not see anything at 15kHz, even NGC's boot up screen.

Hmmm.... would take me a long time and probably a couple of broken cables but I could do it.

So if the game doesn't support it then it won't work. :( Seeing as they removed digital out on the new cubes I don't have much hope for that...

Thanks for the help but I need to find another way.

Well, if all you want to do is play them on a VGA monitor, then you'll be able to find VGA boxes for sale.

But none of them will take advantage of the GC Digital Out port, so in effect, you'll just be watching composite analog quality on a VGA monitor.

If you truly want to take advantage of the Gamecube's progressive scan games, this is the only way I know about.
I saw some HK website selling it completely modded already for $54.

I know, but I prefer sitting in front of my monitor to laying about in front of my TV. :(

I will have a look to see if I can find the pre-made one though. :P

It sounds cool, but the machine wasn't built for it, unlike the DC.  I'd just say to stick with compo cables and rock the proscan.
