Anybody know how to raise a sites rank in a Google search?
« on: April 05, 2008, 07:26:52 PM »
When you search for "dreamcast isos" Segahub is no where to be found and there's a lot of pretty crappy sites ahead of us.  Anybody know how to make it so our result appears closer to the top?

EDIT:  Well it looks like there's just about no way to find this site via a google search even if you put in "segahub dreamcast" the main site doesn't even come up.  What's wrong?

Maybe on the front part of the site, add some words on it, that people could put into google, because when google searches, it kind of seems to start by the front page of each site. It's about relevancy.

This is what it says when you just put in "Segahub" by itself:
Quote
Segahub.org: News
Join the IRC Channel to chat with fellow Segahub members, ... I have installed e107 as the portal for Segahub, hopefully everything will be easier to access ...
www.segahub.org/ - 13k - Cached - Similar pages - Note this
segahub.org - Index
segahub.org - Index. ... At Segahub, we support the arts. Post any artwork or music you find here, or post your own! 546 Posts ...

It has something to do with the first thing you put on the front page there.

I tried putting some keywords on the front page, we'll see if that helps.  But both Dreamcast and Segahub are words on the main page, that should be enough.

ok ... pretend I'm a new guy here ... I'm looking for a dreamcast forum, first thing I type in is "Dreamcast Forum" and I don't see segahub for a while down :( I mean yes, segahub is in the name of the keywords somewhere, but am I going to type in segahub right away? I don't even remember how I found Segahub three years ago to be honest! :D

I'd probably google something like "dreamcast downloads" or "dreamcast iso"

One of the top ranked pages has over 70 references to 'dreamcast'

try having more "sega" and "dreamcast" and not "segahub"

I certainly don't type in 'Puppyhub download' when I wan't to download puppies.

You raise an interesting question, where would be a good place for one to download puppies?

you should try find out how those anti scientology guys made the scientology main page the top search restult in goole for dangerous cult. Them doing that is proof enough that you can increase the ranks of a page in google.

Basically the more relevant stuff you put in the front page, the better of a chance someone will look here. That's just a theory.

So I found out a MAJOR problem.  The googlebot does not go through our forums so absolutely nothing is searchable.  We could have a lot more members if I get this working, google is one of the main ways people find forums other than bittorrent.

Alright, I just got a lot of help from somebody over on the SMF community forums (great place) so we should be accessible from google in a few days!  The only way you could get to the main site from google was to type in "segahub" nothing with dreamcast in it would work, but it should soon.  I always wondered why the other Dreamcast sites were more popular than us... once I get this working we will have a ton more members.
